How to contour a round face

Contour can be one of those scary makeup artist terms, but it doesn’t have to be. Contouring can actually be a really simple process that anyone can do!

It’s important to take your face shape into consideration—that will affect how you contour. For example, contouring for a round face is different than a long, oval face shape. Today we’re focusing on round faces.

Follow these three simple steps to seamlessly contour a round face:

1. Using a medium-sized fluffy brush, begin by shading your forehead around your temples and hairline.

2. Next, continue shading your jawline, blending downward as you go. This will add dimension and structure to the face.

3. Apply blush with a smaller, firmer brush onto your upper cheekbones, blending both upward and downward. This will create an illusion of higher cheekbones.

What to avoid when contouring:

Do not apply blush to the apples of your cheeks. This will make your face appear even rounder. You want to elongate your features, and make your cheekbones look higher.

Choose a bronzer two shades darker than your skin tone. Anything darker than that will look unnatural.

Now, there you have it! That’s all there is to contouring. Remember: the goal with contouring is to make it look seamless and natural. So go on and start practicing—you’ll be a pro in no time!
